My Screenplay demanded Upendra - P Vasu

The stalwart director P Vasu of ‘Aptha Mithra’, ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ and the recent Telugu film ‘Nagavalli’ is back in Kannada with a toughest screenplay that demanded none other than super star Upendra.

Why Upendra? The screenplay is so much twist and turn an actor cum director could only take up the role mentioned P Vasu answering the queries from the curious media at Kamalammana Gundi near Mahalakshmi Layout.

It is Uppi special and my way of telling. When producer Krishnaprajwal came to do another film I narrated him a single line and told an actor cum director like Upendra could do it. Krisnaprajwal checked up with Upendra and it is only when he agreed I started writing screenplay in two months time. In the two months time I came to know what Upendra films are and what his trump card is. I saw his films like A, Upendra, Raktha Kanneeru and Super’. I came to one conclusion he is a dialogue oriented mass hero.

When the shooting started it was challenge to me as well as Upendra. I saw the performance of Upendra in the climax to the hilt. Like how I saw Soundaraya in climax of ‘Aptha Mithra’ that is the range of Upendra. Here the characterization is special. There is enough comedy and entertainment. The heroines have great job to do. I am serving a buffet for the audience with lovely music from Gurukiran. The song Thu Ninna…is penned by Upendra. Without any confusion it is narrated but questions crop up till last 20 minutes is there for the film.

Ragini plays doctor in this film says she improved her acting five times more. P Vasuji is a teacher and director. He is a mentor mentioned the sweet looking Ragini who came to the media meet from her ‘Shiva’ shooting at Bangalore Palace.

Producer Krishnaprajwal back after big loot in the box office from ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ says the talkie of the film is over and three songs will be shot in Indonesia. It is he wanted the title of the film to start in ‘Aa’. P Vasu obliged with ‘Aarakshaka’.

The film is expected to appear before the audience in November he says. Whether the protagonist becomes a police or not is the crux of the film he pointed in one line the content of the film

The Mysterious Script - Upendra

In the career of nearly 20 years I have not seen this kind of script. I am known for twists and turns plus confusing the audience from ‘A’ in 1998. All my thoughts superseded in the screenplay I heard from P Vasu for ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ says the delectable Upendra actor cum director of Kannada filmdom.

P Vasu as the brilliant director knows the knack of getting what he wants and that is what the audience of commercial format also requires. I have heard the screenplay at least 10 times but at the time of shooting I would wonder where the particular scene would be placed. P Vasu never used to get irritated. He was explaining with the same temperament always stated Upendra on one of the finest directors of South India.

The characterization is so special in this film and the director in me did not wake up. I stayed throughout the talkie portion as an actor. For anyone we have to give the example of completely different this ‘Aarakshaka’ is a fine example says Upendra.

Super star Upendra complimented the nature in producer Krishna Prajwal. He has done everything required for the film.

Upendra right now is always thinking about ‘Sada Ragini’. Not to mistake, Sada and Ragini are his two heroines in ‘Aptha Rakshaka’. The coining of two names would give a meaning that he is always (Sada) thinking about Ragini!

I SEE QUALITIES OF VISHNU IN UPPI – P VASU

Look at the birthday of both – Dr Vishnu and Upendra. That is one striking similarity. In addition to it I see Bhaya, dedication, producer should prosper and discipline – all qualities of Dr Vishnu are imbibed in actor cum director Upendra – P Vasu remarked

Upendra is such a gem of a personality was curiously hearing to the compliments showered on him. He was unmoved for such notifications in him.

‘ARAKSHAKA’ IT IS NORMAL AND HIGH CLASS

Director of high reputation P Vasu is back with a big personality of Kannada cinema Upendra once again after blockbuster ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ the 200th film of Dr Vishnuvardhana.

The dexterous director P Vasu says the film is screenplay based and last 20 minutes answers all doubts in audience. In fact it makes the audience to come second time and clap wherever he missed before last 20 minutes of the film. That is the intelligence of putting things by this director. This is Uppi Special that appeals to normal and high class audience.

Director P Vasu has not taken up the film of Upendra just like that. He had seen the films of A, Upendra, Raktha Kanneeru and Super before speaking to him. You would see a great performer in Upendra. The dialogue oriented actor would not disappoint anyone promises P Vasu. This will be a perfect buffet. I see the range of how Soundarya had performed in Upendra performance in climax adds the delectable director P Vasu. The songs of Gurukiran have come out well and the heroines have good job in this film P Vasu further states.

I have not seen this kind of ‘Vichitra’ script says Upendra. What exact meaning you give for ‘Different’ it is in this film. Even after hearing 10 times I am not able to tell. It is really different and the director in me did not come out. Only the actor came out informed Upendra.

I have learnt a lot. What I could learn from five films it was here in this film to take knowledge in acting said the doctor in the film actress Ragini. A glamorous doctor too.

Producer Krishna Prajwal was lauded for his understanding of the film and giving it right. He says the talkie is over and for songs Indonesia will be the place to shoot three songs. He has plans to release in November.

The song sequence at Kamalammana Gundi at Mahalakshmi layout was with huge turnout of fans watching it. Anna Hazare and flags were also seen around

‘ARAKSHAKA’ FIRST TIME YOU SEE SECOND TIME YOU CLAP FOR IT

The giants are together. That is superstar Upendra, director P Vasu! The film ‘Arakshaka’ by successful producer of ‘Aptharakshaka’ Krishna Prajwal has completed the talkie portions. It is planning for Indonesia for three songs and a few songs in the hilly regions of Karnataka.

At the Kamalammana Gundi for the shoot of ‘Arakahska’ the huge cutout of Anna Hazare and flags was part of the song shot on Upendra when the media reached this place on Monday afternoon.

Director P Vasu says this is ‘Uppi Special’. I have seen his films A, Upendra, Raktha Kanneeru and Super and then had a discussion for this screenplay based cinema. The last 20 minutes you see the film you would find answer for various questions in the mind says Vasu.

The subject I had prepared one year ago was demanding a director cum actor to understand it and portray. When Krishnaprajwal came with the proposal first I saw the films of Upendra and then took up this film. After Upendra agreed I waited for two months for getting ready the screenplay. Then the meeting with Upendra took place. He has given a very fine performance. That too in the climax it is interesting. Like how Soundaraya performed in ‘Aptha Mithra’ Upendra had done in ‘Arakshaka’. This is a straight subject the characterization is the specialty in the film. This is wild and mild too, one would get scared at places. I always believe in veteran Nagi Reddy principle – from every new film one lakh of fans should add for the actor. This is going to happen in this film says confident P Vasu. From the salary I take I want to give profit for my producer says the diligent director.

The real meaning for ‘Different’ one could give from this film screenplay. At least 10 times I heard the screenplay but I am not able to understand. This is about a person aspiring to become a cop. Whether he becomes or not is the subject narration says Upendra. Being a director I was not able to come out with that while acting in this film. A director in me did not come. That is the strength of P Vasu stated Upendra.

For Krishnaprajwal there was appreciation from director P Vasu. He is straightforward. He knows what should be given and he seeks my permission stated Vasu.
The ‘Ghee Shop Owner’ of Kannada cinema Ragini plays the doctor in the film. I have been able to improve my acting five times more. That is the teaching I got. I feel it proud to act with Upendra said the most beautiful Ragnin.

A: Film by Upendra

Please be warned that it’s necessary to include some small spoilers in the discussion of this film but I will not give away most of the plot. Part of the fun of A is watching events unfold and I wouldn’t ruin that for anybody.



Also, please be warned that A is NOT appropriate for all ages and has some extreme examples of violence against women. If that bothers you, I would advise against watching the film – although you might want to read my piece first and then decide because the violence is not gratuitious – but if you are a sensitive soul who dislikes even artistic violence, then this is not the film for you.




After reading the very enthusiastic comments from some of my Kannada-speaking friends, I was prepared to enjoy A. Written by, directed by, and starring Upendra as the actor and director Soorya (got all that?), A is a like a gaping wound of raw emotion.










I didn't enjoy A, I had my mind blown.



(Note: My mind was blown in a good way…)



The action beings in a mental hospital at midnight – an auspicious beginning. Some first person shaky camfootage sets the mood by filming the escape of a madman from the perspective of the madman. He eludes capture and ends up at a temple.









Our first glimpse of the madman reveals Our Hero – Upendra – covered in the bright powder of the temple, as if God himself has marked him.



He’s got crazy eyes.



And is none too impressed with God, who he claims only put evil into the world so that good people would be forced to ask him for help.

After literally chucking God down a well, the madman continues on his rampage – passing judgment on all and sundry while shouting (in all caps): I AM GOD; GOD IS GREAT.



An elderly man is rewarded with the favors of two women who are being punished.



(I don’t know if you can tell but he’s biting her ears off.)

The action builds and builds to frenzy of fire and blood and really fast cuts between shots. I can’t keep up and we’re only 20 minutes in.





(Note: I fell for the fake-out - to the extent that I actually checked the DVD to make sure it wasn't skipping around before I saw these titles for "A.")



Yes, the first 20 minutes or so of A: Film by Upendra is actually A: Film By Soorya and wouldn’t you know it but a loud, foreign lady wants to buy the film to distribute it overseas. There is just one problem – the censors chopped the ending of the film so badly that it no longer makes sense and they need to re-shoot. Actually, there are two problems – Soorya is not in any condition to shoot anything.



(It’s a nice touch that Soorya is conscious of manners even in his stupor – his lips do not touch that whiskey bottle.)



And the heroine of the film – Chandni playing Chandni – will not have anything to do with Soorya anyways.



I can tell you right now, if you think you know where this film is headed, you are wrong.






A blends songs, switched points of view, flashback, film-within-a-film footage, and seemingly real lifefootage into a twisted and really emotional narrative that will keep your head spinning.



(A still from some eerie footage that had everybody’s faces blacked out – were they filmed without permission? Is this real footage? Why doesn’t the Criterion Collection get on making us a beautifully remastered edition of this with a director’s commentary? Oh, right… because if it’s not by some white guy, they don’t care.)



What holds the narrative together is the glue of love and power – men exert powerful forces and violent on women in the name of love and lust. And love itself has the power to destroy lives. This isn’t the soppy love of a thousand Yash Raj films but the immolating love of Layla-Majnun, Romeo-Juliet, and (if I may) Edward-Bella.





Who has the right to love? Can you force somebody to love you back?

Love can turn you into a madman – the type who escapes from a mental hospital at exactly midnight.



Since the Soorya, as the Hero, is our main point of view character, we are inherently sympathetic to his feelings. Playing the enigma is much harder and I want to give a shoutout to Chandni, who is magnificent as Chandini. Her character is a difficult one to play and a difficult one to pin down. The viewer never quite knows how she is going to react or what her true motivations are – until the very end.

I hope it’s not giving too much away to say that Chandni’s final speech at the end of the film was the first time in this whole delirious film that the action paused long enough to let the emotions catch up to me. I cried.

But A isn’t all self-destructive love and violence – this is a masala film at its heart and we are treated to such delights as…



…an item song featuring this lovely lady. Can anybody tell me who she is?





… a very funny and clever song that compares film shooting to a cricket match.





… and this song. Which just… I think you should probably watch it.



This alone should refute any charges that song-dance is all happy and romantic and dancing around trees.

I’ll close with a couple thoughts. First of all, from what I read about A online in the few English-language sources that I could find, the impression I had was that it was a film about the sleazy side of filmmaking, kind of like Page 3. Let me clear that up – A is on a completely different planet from Page 3. Where films like Page 3 sanctimoniously revel in the muck they dig up, A is not about scandal or shame. A is about raw human emotion – something mostly missing from Madhur Bhandarkar’s productions (Kangana Ranaut in Fashion is the exception.) The topic matter may be similar but if you found Page 3 preachy and unrealistic, don’t worry - A is nothing like it.

Secondly, from what I read about A, there were some accusations of misogyny towards Upendra andaccording to him, he lost female audiences after A. Now, I did see some violence against women but I didn’t see the misogyny nor did I see any of my most hated of female tropes – the helpless heroine. I really don’t want to give anything away but I will say that Chandni does goes beat up BUT later she also does some serious (and fatal) damage to the men who attacked her. And Chandni is never subjected to the leering camera – Upendra is very respectful of his actress, even as she is suffering some terrible torments.

Any misogyny in A comes from the society that Upendra is trying to capture in his film and not from Upendra himself.

(At least as far as I could tell – I want to emphasize that I do not speak Kannada and have to rely on subtitles. If I missed something, please let me know! I’m not afraid to be wrong.)
A is a remarkable film and solidifies my view that some of the most vital and meaningful cinema is coming out of Karnataka right now. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into more Upendra films. I have H20 ready to watch but I may need a few days to really let A sink in.

ಕನ್ನಡದ ನೆಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಮಾನವಾಗುವ ಘಟನೆಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸುದ್ದಿಯಾದರೆ ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ನೀರಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಂದ ಪಟಾಕಿಯಂತೆ ಸಿಡಿಯೋದೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಸ್ವಾಭಿಮಾನಿ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ 'ಸ್ವಾಭಿಮಾನಕ್ಕೆ' ಅವಮಾನ ಆಗುವ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೂ ಸುಸಂಸ್ಕೃತರೂ, ವಿಶಾಲ ಹೃದಯದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ಅವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನೋಡಿದರೂ ನೋಡದೆ, 'ನಮಗ್ಯಾಕೆ ಇದೆಲ್ಲಾ' ಎಂದು ಸುಮ್ಮನಿರುವುದು ಮಾತ್ರ ವಾಸ್ತವತೆ. ನಮ್ಮವರಿಂದಲೇ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅವಮಾನದ ಘಟನೆ ಕೂಡಾ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಕೆಲವೊಂದು ಉದಾಹರಣೆ ಓದುಗರ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ, ಈ ಘಟನೆಗಳು ಈ ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲೇ ನಡೆದಿದ್ದು.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ 1 : ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ರಾಜಧಾನಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪುಟ್ಟದಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಸಾಫ್ಟ್ ವೇರ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆ ಹುಟ್ಟು ಹಾಕಿ ಇಂದು ಜಾಗತಿಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಾಬಲ್ಯ ಮೆರೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾಪಕರು ಪಂಚತಾರ ಹೋಟೆಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಏನಿದ್ರೂ ಮನೇಲಿ, ಹೊರಗಡೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಇಲ್ಲಪ್ಪಾ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರು ಗುಳ್ಳನೆ ನಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇವರು ಮೈಸೂರು ಮೂಲದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು.

ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಅಭಿನಯದ 'ಗಾಡ್‌ಫಾದರ್' ಚಿತ್ರದ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆಂದು ಅವರು ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಖರ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವರು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಗಂಡುಗಲಿಯೇ ಎನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದೊಡ್ಡಬಳ್ಳಾಪುರದ ಸಮೀಪದ ಸಿಂಗನಹಳ್ಳಿ ನಿತ್ಯೋತ್ಸವ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಮಂಟಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದ ಮದುವೆಯ ದೃಶ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಹೊಡೆದಾಟದ ದೃಶ್ಯಗಳಿಗೆಂದೇ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕ್ಯಾಮರಾಗಳನ್ನು ಬಳಸಲಾಯಿತಂತೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಧಕೋಟಿಗೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹಣ ಖರ್ಚಾಯಿತು ಎಂಬುದು ವಿಶೇಷ.

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು, ಮಡಿಕೇರಿ, ಮೈಸೂರು ಮೊದಲಾದ ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿತ್ರೀಕರಣವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿರುವುದು ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲದೇ ಚಿತ್ರತಂಡವು ಸದ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಸ್ವಿಜರ್‌ಲೆಂಡ್‌ಗೆ ತೆರಳಲಿದೆಯಂತೆ. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರಣಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಅಭಿನಯದ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳ ಪೈಕಿ ಅತಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬಜೆಟ್‌ನ ಚಿತ್ರ ಎಂಬ ಕೀರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು 'ಗಾಡ್‌ಫಾದರ್' ಚಿತ್ರ ದಕ್ಕಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ ಎನ್ನಬಹುದು.

ಈ ಬಹುಕೋಟಿ ವೆಚ್ಚದ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ದ್ವಿಪಾತ್ರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿರುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಯನ್ನೂ ಬರೆದಿರುವುದು ವಿಶೇಷ. ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಚಿತ್ರೋದ್ಯಮವನ್ನು ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿದ್ದೇ ಸಂಭಾಷಣಾಕಾರರಾಗಿ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನಿಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಅಗತ್ಯ.

ಖ್ಯಾತ ತಾರೆ ಜಯಮಾಲಾರವರ ಮಗಳು ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊದಲ ಬಾರಿಗೆ ನಾಯಕಿಯಾಗಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕ್ಯಾಥರೀನ್‌, ಸುಧಾ ಬೆಳವಾಡಿ, ರಮೇಶ್‌ಭಟ್‌, ರವೀಂದ್ರ ಮೊದಲಾದವರ ತಾರಾಗಣವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟುಹಾಕಿರುವುದಂತೂ ನಿಜ.

ಅಜ್ಜ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪಿಂಚಣಿ ಸಿಕ್ತಾ? ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ತೆಗೆಸಿ ಕೊಟ್ರಾ?

ಸ್ಯಾಂಡಲ್‌ವುಡ್‌ನ ಅಚ್ಚರಿ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ದಶಕದ ನಂತರ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸಿದ 'ಸೂಪರ್' ಗಲ್ಲಾಪೆಟ್ಟಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ದೋಚುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಬಹುತೇಕ ಮಂದಿ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ಬೆನ್ನು ತಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿರುವ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿರುವ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿನ ಚಿಕ್ಕ, ಆದರೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಟಿಸಿದ ಅಜ್ಜ ಈಗ ಸಿಕ್ಕಾಪಟ್ಟೆ ಫೇಮಸ್ ಆಗಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರೇ ಶಿವಣ್ಣ.

ನಾಯಕಿಯ ಸವಾಲನ್ನು ಎದುರಿಸಲು ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಯಕ ನೋಡುವ ದೇಶದ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯದು. ಒಬ್ಬ ನಿವೃತ್ತ ನೌಕರ ತನ್ನ ಪಿಂಚಣಿ ಹಣ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಲಂಚ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾದ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ 'ಏನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಉಳಿದಿರುವುದು ಇದೊಂದೇ ಅಂಗಿ. ಅದನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಕೋ' ಎಂದು ಬಿಚ್ಚಿ ಕೊಡುವ ದೃಶ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯ ನಾಗರಿಕ ಶಿವಣ್ಣ ನಟಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ಇವರಿಗಾಗಿ ಆಯೋಜಿಸಿದ್ದ ಸನ್ಮಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಕೂಡ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಸನ್ಮಾನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಸನ್ಮಾನವೊಂದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು, 'ಸೂಪರ್' ಚಿತ್ರದ ಇವರ ನಟನೆ, ಅವಕಾಶ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಬಗ್ಗೆಯೇ ಅಜ್ಜ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದರಂತೆ. ಸುಮಾರು 100ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಫೋನ್ ಕರೆಗಳು ಬಂದಿವೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ 'ಸೂಪರ್' ಚಿತ್ರ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.




76 ವರ್ಷದ ಶಿವಣ್ಣ ಹಿಂದೆ ವಿಷ್ಣುವರ್ಧನ್ ಅವರ ಚಿತ್ರವೊಂದರ ದೃಶ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವರು. ಈಗ ರಿಯಲ್ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪಾತ್ರ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಜನ ಗುರುತಿಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಸಂತೋಷವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಉಬ್ಬಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಶಿವಣ್ಣ

ಮುಂದಿನ ಚಿತ್ರದ ತಯಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪ್ಪಿ; ಯಾರು ಹೀರೋ?

ಸೂಪರ್' ಚಿತ್ರದ ಸೂಪರ್ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ ರಿಯಲ್ ಸ್ಟಾರ್ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಉಬ್ಬಿ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅದೇ ನಿಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಯ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಚಿತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಕೈ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಆದರೆ ಆ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾನೇ ನಾಯಕನೋ ಅಥವಾ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬರನ್ನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶಿಸುತ್ತಾರೋ ಎಂಬ ಗುಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಲ್ಲ.

ಉಪ್ಪಿ ಗಿಮಿಕ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ದಶಕಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ. ಅದರ ನಂತರ ಕಾವೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ನೀರು ಹರಿದು ಹೋಗಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯದ್ಭುತ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಿರುವಾಗ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರನ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಯಾರೂ ನೋಡೋದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದೆಲ್ಲ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಬಂದಂತೆ ಟೀಕಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವರನ್ನು ಸೂಪರ್ ಮೂಲಕ ಬಾಯ್ಮುಚ್ಚಿಸಿರುವ ಅವರು, ಈಗ ಎದೆಯುಬ್ಬಿಸಿ ನಿಂತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮತ್ತೆ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನವನ್ನು ಮಾಡೇ ತೀರುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಘಂಟಾ ಘೋಷವಾಗಿ ಸಾರಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ತನ್ನ ಮುಂದಿನ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತಿಗಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಉಪ್ಪಿ, 'ಜನ ನನ್ನ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಶೈಲಿಯನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇಂತಹ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಕುಳಿದರೆ, ಅದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಮಾನಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತೀವ್ರ ನೋವನ್ನು ತರಬಹುದು. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಯೋಜನೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈಗೆತ್ತಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಶೀಘ್ರದಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಈ ಕುರಿತು ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ' ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಶಿವರಾಜ್ ಕುಮಾರ್, ಸುದೀಪ್, ಪುನೀತ್ ರಾಜ್‌ಕುಮಾರ್ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಹಲವು ನಾಯಕರು, ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರುಗಳು ಚಿತ್ರದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳು ಸಂತಸ ತಂದಿವೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಧನ್ಯ. ಇಂತವರು ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಮಟ್ಟದ ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಹ ನೀಡಿರುವುದು ಕೂಡ ನಾನು ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದುವರಿಯಲು ಕಾರಣ ಎಂದು ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಆದರೆ ಮುಂದಿನ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿವರಗಳನ್ನು ನೀಡಲು ಉಪ್ಪಿ ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ನಿರಾಕರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಮತ್ತೆ ನಾನೇ ನಾಯಕನಾಗಬಹುದು ಅಥವಾ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ನಾಯಕನಾಗಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಅಡ್ಡಗೋಡೆ ಮೇಲೆ ದೀಪವಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಮೂಲಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಸ್ವತಃ ಉಪ್ಪಿಯೇ ಅವರ ಮುಂದಿನ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲೂ ನಾಯಕರಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತಪ್ಪಿದರೆ ಪುನೀತ್ ರಾಜ್‌ಕುಮಾರ್ ನಾಯಕನಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇವೆರಡನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿದ ಸಾಧ್ಯತೆಗಳು ಕಡಿಮೆ.

ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಬಹುಕಾಲದ ಆಸೆ. ನನ್ನ ಉದ್ದೇಶ ಹಣ ಮಾಡುವುದಲ್ಲ. ಜನರ ಸೇವೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆನ್ನುವುದು ನನ್ನ ಬಯಕೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ನಾನು ಮನವಿಗಳನ್ನಷ್ಟೇ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಯಾದರೆ ನಾನು ಆದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ನೀಡಬಹುದು -- ಇದು ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಮಾತುಗಳು.

ಸೂಪರ್ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವಂತೆ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗುವುದು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ಗುರಿಯೇ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗೆ, 'ನಾನು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ಅದರ ಕುರಿತು ಯೋಚನೆ ಮಾಡಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ ಕೆಲ ಮಂದಿ, ನಾನು ನಿಜ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ರಾಜಕಾರಣಿಯಾಗಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಬಯಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ' ಎಂದರು.

ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಉಪ್ಪಿ ಸಿನಿಮಾಗಳಿಗೆ ಗುಡ್ ಬೈ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಯಾರು ಕೂಡ ಅಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗಿಲ್ಲ.

ನಿರ್ದೇಶನ ಮತ್ತು ನಟನೆ ಯಾವತ್ತೂ ಸಾಯದ ನನ್ನ ವ್ಯಾಮೋಹ. ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿರುವ ಹಲವು ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಮಂದಿ ಈ ಉದ್ಯಮಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಶ್ರಮಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನನ್ನ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ಖಂಡಿತಾ ಯಾವುದರಲ್ಲೂ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿರದು ಎಂದು ಸಂಶಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಉಪ್ಪಿ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಆದರೆ ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವುದು ಯಾವಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಯಾವ ಪಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮುಂದಾದುವುಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಟ್ಟಿಲ್ಲ.

ನನಗೆ ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಕಲಿಯೋದಿದೆ. ನನ್ನ ಉದ್ದೇಶಿತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಯುವ ಮೊದಲು ಜನತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಆಗಬೇಕಿದೆ.

ಯಾಕೆ ನಾನು ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರಬಾರದೇ? ಯಾವತ್ತಾದರೂ ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದೇ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆದರೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರೋದಿಲ್ಲ. ಸದ್ಯಕ್ಕಂತೂ ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂತಹ ಯಾವುದೇ ಯೋಜನೆಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ದೇವರ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಆತ ಬಯಸಿದರೆ ನಡೆಯದ್ದು ಏನಿದೆ? ನನ್ನ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಯ 2030ರ ಭಾರತ ಅಸಾಧ್ಯವೇನಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಜನ ಎದ್ದೇಳಬೇಕು. ನನ್ನ ಯತ್ನ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ನೀಡುವುದು ಮಾತ್ರ.

ಹಾಗೆ ನೋಡಿದರೆ ಉಪೇಂದ್ರ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ರಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿರುವುದೇ ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಮಹತ್ವಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಂತೆ. ರಾಜಕೀಯ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಾಗಿ ನನಗೆ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲುಗಳು ಬೇಕಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಅದು ಸಿನಿಮಾ ರಂಗ. ಇಲ್ಲೂ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಆದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಗುರಿ ನನ್ನಿಂದಾಗುವ ಕೊಡುಗೆಯನ್ನು ಸಮಾಜಕ್ಕೆ ನೀಡುವುದು ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಉಪ್ಪಿಯ ಕನಸುಗಳು ಎಷ್ಟರ ಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ನನಸಾಗಬಹುದು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಕಾಲವೇ ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಬೇಕಿದೆ

Munirathna has said that the launch of his new film starring Super Star Upendra was postponed mainly because of the Pithru Paksha which has already started and will be concluding on September 27.

Ramya has been selected as the heroine of this film while Sadhu Kokila is the director.

“I am sure to launch my film on October 6 which will be the day of Vijayadhashami or a few days earlier depending on my convenience and a divine muhurath time. I had announced that the new film will be launched on September 18, the birthday of Upendra. I should have made a Pooja before the Pithru Paksha, but some how Upendra was in outdoor shoot in Mysore and could not come to Bengaluru even for a day. He was busy shooting for two of his films. The story, screen play is ready and Upendra will be writing th the dialogues of the film’ said Munirathna.

Upendra’s new film which is being directed by veteran director P Vasu and produced by Krishna Prajwal of ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ fame has been named as ‘Aarakshaka’.

Though the film was launched  in Mysore silently and shooting was going on smoothly for a while, the film was called an untitled film as there were confusions regarding the name. The producer had sent two names, for the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce title committee for clearance. Out of which one was ‘Aarakshaka’ and the other was ‘Avanu’. The title committee has cleared both the titles and the film team has decided to title the film as ‘Aaraksha’, which they say is very apt for the film.

Incidentally or Coincidentally P Vasu’s earlier two films ‘Aapthamithra’ and ‘Aaptharakshaka’ started with the letter ‘A’.
