On September 18, Real Star Upendra didn't just celebrate his 45th birthday. The actor, who launched his home production Uppi 2 amid much fanfare also took the opportunity to announce the Upendra Foundation that he floated with his wife Priyanka. "I have borrowed a concept from Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. He once said that if the food you eat remains within you, it will make you sick. Similarly, if you hoard all your money that isn't good either. The idea is that we should all look at donating a certain percentage of our income towards helping the underprivileged. That doesn't mean that you should give away everything. You keep as much as you need and give away the rest. The Upendra Foundation is our way of doing our bit for society," said Upendra.
Priyanka, whose brainchild the foundation is, added, "Over the years, Upendra has been offered opportunities to get into politics, especially after Super. But his idea of working for society is different and, hence, he did not take the plunge. We have, time and again, done our bit for various charitable organizations and thought why not have our own trust to do the kind of work we want to do, which is primarily in taking care of the girl child and ensuring that they have basic things like education and sanitation. We will bifurcate our funds to various schools and ensure that they have all amenities."
The logo of the foundation, incidentally, features the alphabets U and P together to look like a ganesha, but also reads Uppi, the actor's nickname.
