The website Who Popular is Infact among the World’s most popular film directors for which a poll was conducted, Brazilian film director FERNANDO MEIRELLES who directed City of God in 2002 occupies the first place. Among the Indian film directors it is Manirathnam who occupies the eighth place followed by S.S. Rajamouli who is in the 14th place. Upendra has been accorded the 31st place in the list. Uppi is much ahead of other well known film directors like Shakar and Roman Polanski who occupy the 45th and 47th positions. Dariush Mehrjui who was invited as the Chief guest in the inaugural of the 4th edition of the Bengaluru Film Festival occupies the 48th position.
In the world’s most popular director’s poll conducted among the face book users, Upendra occupies the second most popular spot. The first place goes to Lebanese music video director Yahya Saade who died of electric shock. But among the film directors it is Upendra who is in the top position among the world’s face book users. He is ahead of Manirathnam, S.S.Rajamouli and James Cameroon.
According to poll held in the country, Upendra occupies the fourth most popular director’s slot compared to Manirathnam, S.S.Rajamouli and Krishna Vamshi. This is not surprising as people from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are more focussed on the director’s abilities more than the film fans in Karnataka who seem to be more hero centric. But he is much ahead of Bala, Gautham Menon, A.R.Muruga Doss, Yash Chopra, Karan Johar and Raj Kumar Hirani. Among the face book users in the country, Upendra occupies the number one position ahead of Manirathnam, S.S.Rajamouli, Shankar and Malayalam film director Siddique, Karan Johar and Gautham Menon
