It's been a while since Real Star Upendra last directed a film (2010's Super), so there has been a lot of speculation as to when he would wield the megaphone again. In fact, at one point the buzz was that there would be a sequel to Super - a rumour that the actor dismissed. While news of a home production has been doing the rounds for a while, work on it had been pushed repeatedly, after the actor decided to concentrate on acting commitments, allegedly owing to the box office failure of Topiwaala, which the actor had co-scripted. While acting jobs are still keeping him busy, at the recent muhurat of his next, Superro Ranga, the Kannada remake of Kick, in which he co-stars Kriti Kharbanda, the actor-director announced that he would launch his directorial on his birthday, September 18.
He quickly added, though, that actual production will begin later, as he has to complete R Chandru's Brahma, Srinivasa Raju's untitled film, as well as Superro Ranga.
